The story of Wuorio House begins in 1831. Originally built for residential purposes, the house truly came to life after a series of modernizations by decorative painter Salomo Wuorio and architect Herman Gesellius.
After a renovation completed in 1913, the building became known as the “Wuorio business palace”. For almost 70 years, it housed Salomo Wuorio’s own wallpaper and carpet shop. From the 1930s, the lower floor of the Wuorio House also became home to the English Tea Room.
The English Tea Room, a charming establishment was opened in 1934 by Gustav Paulig. For decades, it was one of the most elegant meeting places in town, known for its English elegance and serving as the flagship café for Gustav Paulig Ltd.
